Details
The White House Historical Association’s 2025 Official White House Christmas Ornament celebrates the history and traditions of presidential diplomacy by highlighting two iconic State China Services.
The front of the ornament features the service plate from the Reagan State Service. Produced in 1981 by Lenox China in Trenton, New Jersey, the china was funded by a donation from the Knapp Foundation through the White House Historical Association. The service was used by the Reagans for many State and Official Dinners, smaller private meals, and other White House events. It was First Lady Nancy Reagan herself who compared prototypes in the State Dining Room by candlelight to select a rich shade of red—her favorite color. The service plate is distinguished by a wide scarlet red border embellished with gold cross-hatching and a central Presidential Coat of Arms. The North Portico at the ornament top and the festive holly and snowflakes surrounding the plate complete the design on the front of the piece.
Central to the reverse of the ornament is the Clinton gold-rimmed service plate, distinguished by a gilded White House in the center. The elegant Reagan and Clinton china continue to be used for State and Official Dinners today.
